What work is being carried out under the BESS scope at the Killik wind farm?
Miratek Elektrik is carrying out the electrical works for the battery energy storage system (BESS) being built at Eksim Enerji's Killik wind farm (Killik RES) in Tokat province, working as the electrical works subcontractor to Chint Power Systems. Our scope covers DC cabling between the battery containers and the PCS (power conversion system) units, mechanical and electrical installation of the PCS and battery equipment, LV/MV connections, the grounding network, and commissioning tests.
On site, the work also includes the electrical assembly and connections made as the battery and PCS-transformer containers are lifted onto their concrete foundations by crane, battery module wiring, busbar connections, and LV and signal cable runs between the PCS and battery containers.
Site work is scheduled so that it does not interrupt the operating wind farm's generation. Cable routes, terminations, and panel connections move forward step by step according to the project documentation, and every stage is documented with test records.
Which engineering details matter most in BESS electrical works?
The details that matter most are on the DC side, which calls for a different discipline from conventional LV work. Polarity separation, cable cross-section selection, recording of tightening torques, and insulation testing form the foundation of system safety. Protection coordination and grounding continuity are also critical in the connections between the PCS and the transformer.
Battery racks stay live for as long as the cells hold charge, so unlike an isolated AC circuit there is no fully de-energized state to work in. Connection sequences, isolation points, and insulated tooling are therefore planned before work starts, and each termination is checked and recorded rather than verified only at the end.
During commissioning, the system is not energized until insulation resistance measurements, polarity checks, and communication tests have been completed. This test discipline protects both the equipment and the personnel working on site.
Why is energy storage playing a growing role at wind and solar sites?
Energy storage is gaining ground because wind and solar generation is variable by nature. A BESS balances these generation fluctuations and delivers a more predictable power profile to the grid, contributes to frequency regulation, and gives the plant owner the flexibility to shift when its generation is sold. That is why energy storage is becoming an integral part of new wind and solar investments.
For investors and EPC contractors in Türkiye, this also means the electrical interface between the battery supplier, the EPC contractor, and the site electrical contractor has to be defined early. We explain how that responsibility is typically split in our guide to the electrical works scope of a BESS installation.
How does Miratek approach BESS projects?
At Miratek, we take on the full electrical scope of BESS projects as a single point of contact, from DC cabling and PCS installation to grounding and commissioning. Our work at the Killik wind farm expands our field experience in energy storage and supports our goal of being a reliable delivery partner for renewable energy investors.
This BESS project builds on more than 15 years of electrical contracting experience across Türkiye, including 85 km of MV/LV cable lines and 50 MW of installed solar capacity. Our quality, environmental, and occupational health and safety management systems are certified to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does Miratek's scope cover in BESS electrical works?+
DC cabling, battery module wiring, LV and signal cable runs between the PCS and the battery containers, busbar connections, grounding, and commissioning tests are all carried out on site by Miratek as a single point of contact.
Does a BESS installation affect the operation of an existing power plant?+
The work is planned in coordination with the plant's operating schedule; connection and commissioning steps are completed within controlled outage windows.
