Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a distribution substation and a transformer substation?
A transformer substation converts the voltage level, whereas a distribution substation apportions energy at the same voltage level across multiple feeders and enables the network to be controlled. In many projects, the two functions are designed together within the same structure.
Our existing distribution substation cannot handle the new loads — do we need a complete renewal?
Not always. During the site inspection, the capacities of the existing cubicles and panels are assessed; in most cases, capacity can be increased by adding feeders, reinforcing busbars, or partially renewing panels. A complete renewal is recommended only where it is technically unavoidable.
Can remote monitoring be added to a distribution substation?
Yes — remote monitoring and alarm infrastructure can be installed both in new builds and in existing substations. Metering and communication hardware is incorporated into the project so that energy consumption and fault conditions can be monitored centrally.
