The choice depends on the geometry of the structure, the risk analysis, and the systems to be protected. For the wide roof areas of industrial buildings, a Faraday cage is the common choice; air terminal solutions can be applied to standalone, tall structures. There is no right answer without a risk analysis.
How often should grounding be measured?
Grounding installations must be measured and reported periodically under the legislation; annual inspection is common practice at industrial facilities. Measurement reports are the official documents requested in both occupational safety audits and insurance processes.
Why are SPDs needed alongside an air terminal?
The external lightning protection system routes the strike to ground over the structure, yet overvoltages arriving over the lines can still reach electronic devices. SPD stages limit these internal overvoltages, protecting automation, IT, and control systems. Together, the two form a complete protection scheme.
